New African Orleans takes listeners on a vibrant transatlantic journey, seamlessly blending history, rhythm, and groove into an unforgettable musical experience. The project features reimagined classics like Herbie Hancock's Watermelon Man alongside Wade’s original compositions, showcasing the profound influence of African heritage on jazz. Tracks such as From Congo to Square trace the evolution of brass music from its African roots to its expressive forms in New Orleans.
With an electrifying band radiating fiery energy, Wade invites audiences to join a cross-continental celebration, redefining jazz through an authentically African lens—an invitation to immerse themselves in the rhythm, spirit, and soul of New African Orleans.
“I’m exploring a world that spans from my Senegalese roots to the lost branches on the other side of the Atlantic. I wanted to journey westward and spark a musical dialogue with the finest artists in Nigeria and the U.S.,” says Wade.
Alune Wade’s versatile and deeply rooted approach to the bass has cemented his place as a vital force in revitalizing the African jazz scene.
