More about the artist

The Hungarian quintet Söndörgő performs unstoppable tamburitza music – a pulsating form of Hungarian folk rooted in South Slavic tradition. At the heart of the sound is the tambura, a mandolin-like string instrument, complemented by flutes, accordion, saxophone, percussion, and vocals. The result is lightning-fast, charming, virtuosic – and irresistibly full of life. In 2025, Söndörgő celebrates its 30th anniversary with a new album that blends favorites from three decades with fresh compositions.

Their repertoire is based on traditional music once collected by Béla Bartók and Tihamér Vujicsics, as well as tunes learned directly from master musicians. With dazzling fingerwork and curious precision, they create a finely woven sonic tapestry – where strings, tradition, and the future are tightly intertwined.

Söndörgő was founded in 1995 in Szentendre, just outside Budapest – in the heart of Hungary’s Serbian minority. All members, except bassist Ábel Dénes, are related: three brothers – Áron, Benjamin, and Salamon Eredics – and their cousin Dávid Eredics. They quite literally grew up with the music, and the Vujicsics Ensemble has long been their spiritual backbone – a group in which their fathers and uncles have preserved the South Slavic heritage for nearly 50 years.

Today, all four Eredics teach at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. But their focus lies not in what tradition once was – but in what it can become, here and now.

2024 marked a creative leap: the band released Gyezz, a collaborative album with jazz star Chris Potter. The album was praised by critics and topped both the World Music Charts Europe and the Songlines chart.

The 30th anniversary is not just a milestone – it signals a new direction. With infectious joy and unwavering vision, Söndörgő continues to shape the future of South Slavic musical tradition.

This is a picnic event, or as we like to call is: Picnic theater. That means that you may bring your own food and drinks to the event.

It doesn’t matter what you bring – take-away pizza at one table is followed by oysters and caviar at the next. Bring what you feel like, and don't forget to bring glasses and cuttlery!

Please note that you may not bring food if you have tickets for the balcony, only drinks and snacks.
