More about the artist

Pop, folk-pop and acoustic folk – honest, heartfelt, and full of raw emotion. Music that holds both vulnerability and strength. With each song, singer and songwriter Moa Lignell opens the door to her inner world. Through deeply personal lyrics, she captures the fragility and resilience of life with a unique voice. Her melodies are intimate, her language sincere – and together they create a distinct soundscape where both the quiet and grand moments of everyday life find their place.

There's no doubt that Moa Lignell is among those artists who always put the craft of songwriting first. Since her breakthrough as a teenager, her gift for putting both her own experiences and the world around her into words has been showcased across several acclaimed albums released under her own name.

Born in Alingsås in 1994, Moa first captured the attention of the Swedish public at the age of sixteen, when she placed third in Idol 2011 with her self-penned song “When I Held Ya.” The track quickly became a hit and marked the beginning of a consistent and evolving career. Her debut album Different Path (2012) went straight to number two on the Swedish album charts. It not only highlighted her powerful voice, but also her drive and songwriting talent. The album was recorded with established musicians such as Peter Morén (Peter Bjorn and John) and producer Tobias Fröberg, known for his work with Ane Brun and Tomas Andersson Wij.

Beyond her own releases, Moa has made her mark as a songwriter for other artists. Notably, she co-wrote “Där går mitt liv” with Melissa Horn and penned “Vi har varit här förut” for Sonja Aldén – collaborations that further cement her role in the Swedish music landscape.

In 2020, Moa took a bold new step by beginning to write and perform in Swedish – a language shift that added even more depth to her lyrics. The EP Det lilla vemodet (2022) was warmly received and marked a new phase of artistic maturity. Here, vulnerability became a strength rather than a risk, drawing listeners even closer. In 2024, Moa continued this path with the EP Ett steg från där jag kom and the single Allt jag önskar mig, marking her first collaboration with renowned songwriter Andreas Mattsson.

Now, in 2025, Moa is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on her next release.
