The music and libretto are written by the internationally renowned saxophonist, composer, and improvising musician Martin Küchen. The arrangements are by award-winning pianist Alex Zethson, and together with strings and an ensemble of top-tier musicians, they create a stage work of great density and intensity.
Elle-Kari Sander is a singer, pianist, and songwriter with roots in alternative pop and jazz. She first gained recognition as the front figure of the group The Tiny and has since participated in numerous musical collaborations and stage productions. With her magnetic and expressive voice, she never shies away from the raw or exaggerated — an approach that adds depth to Küchen’s existential libretto.
Angles is one of Martin Küchen’s most ambitious projects — a horn-based ensemble that, since its inception in 2007, has established itself as a central force on the European jazz and improvisation scene. The group combines strong melodic ideas with free improvisation, political awareness, and collective energy, featuring musicians such as Magnus Broo, Fredrik Ljungkvist, Johan Berthling, and Alex Zethson.
The Death of Kalypso premiered in 2023 at the Summer Bummer Festival in Antwerp and has since been performed on stages across Sweden and Europe, including Roadburn Festival and Moment Teater in Stockholm. Dagens Nyheter described the work as “a truly unique piece… beautiful, raw, and deeply moving.”
The album The Death of Kalypso, released on Thanatosis in the spring of 2024, was awarded the Manifest Gala’s Jazz Prize 2025 — a recognition of a work that unites the grand and the fragile, the timeless and the profoundly human.
