With a musical background that includes Radiojazzgruppen, Red Mitchell’s Communication, EGBA, the trailblazing 1980s band White Orange (featuring Tim Hagans, Johan Norberg and Hector Bingert), and the groundbreaking cross-border project Beijbom Kroner Big Band, Lars Beijbom draws from a deep well of inspiration. It’s a well he taps into when composing for Orchestra Six – a band based in Lund/Malmö whose sound knows no boundaries and warmly invites audiences inside the music.
“Genre-defying sound… echoes of the Brecker Brothers, Headhunters, Horace Silver, Gil Evans, and Word of Mouth (Jaco Pastorius)? The music shifts seamlessly between funk and jazz, driven by an electrifying pulse. Fredrik Davidsson is absolutely phenomenal on trumpet! Impeccable ensemble work, dazzling solos. Beijbom’s groovy polyrhythms, as the band’s engine, give the tunes their irresistible foundation.” – Mats Hallberg, Kulturbloggen
“Fantastic music – like a continuation of White Orange, 40 years later!” – Johan Norberg
“Orch 6 is a true firecracker – bursting with energy and joy! Tight ensemble work, impressive soloing. Fiery funk with a touch of fusion – pure carnival vibes!” – Hans-Erik Bergman, Vi som älskar jazz
“It’s remarkable how Orchestra Six manages to sound like a full big band. These six musicians are among the region’s most seasoned jazz players and soloists.” – Alexander Agrell, Sydsvenskan
“Wow! Three-horn writing at its absolute best. Beijbom should publish a book on it!” – Bertil Strandberg
“Inge Petersson-Lindbäck was on fire. Trombonist Ola Åkerman was outstanding, and Göran Schelin laid down thunderous bass lines that made both the venue and the audience vibrate. A magical night with Beijbom’s Brew.” – Stig Linderoth, Orkesterjournalen
Live on stage:
Lars Beijbom – drums and composition
Fredrik Davidsson – trumpet/flugelhorn
Inge Petersson Lindbäck – saxophones
Ola Åkerman – trombone
Göran Schelin – electric bass
Hans Nilsson – keyboards
