The incredibly high level of musical performance becomes more understandable when you look at Ole Børud’s background. As a second-generation member of the Børud family – a musical institution in itself – he has been a professional musician since the age of 16, but in practice has been performing full-time since he could stand on two feet. Ole reached the finals of Stjernekamp in 2018 and has since toured with his quintet both in Norway and internationally.
The album Stepping Up, released in 2014, picks up where Keep Movin’ (2011) left off. Tracks like the title song and Driving are textbook examples of seamless songwriting in the Becker/Fagen tradition. Following Stjernekamp, the album Outside The Limit (2019) was released, continuing the legacy while leaning more toward pop. In February 2022, he released his fifth solo album Soul Letters, where he took a long-awaited musical turn toward old-school soul – with strong elements of rhythm and blues.
The lyrical universe strikes closer to the soul, with personal reflections on life’s challenges, humanity’s handling of power, and the moment of meeting oneself at a crossroads. Ole is an apostle of love. He sings about how the world needs love – the deep kind of love that can change the course of people’s lives.
Ole Børud’s live band is a powerhouse – made up of some of the finest soul musicians Norway has produced.
On stage:
Ole Børud – vocals and guitar
Ruben Dalen – drums
Lars-Erik Dahle – bass
Markus Lillehaug Johnsen – guitar
Jens Andreas Kleiven – keyboards
