Born in the jazz capital of the world, New Orleans, and raised in Oakland, California, Ledisi already at the age of eight performed with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. Since then, her career has taken her from small club stages to the world’s most prestigious concert halls – including a celebrated, sold-out performance at Carnegie Hall.
With fifteen Grammy nominations, including a win for Best Traditional R&B Performance with the song “Anything for You,” Ledisi has established herself as one of the most influential artists in modern soul and R&B. Her unique combination of powerful singing, technical brilliance, and strong stage presence has made her a favorite among both audiences and critics alike. She has headlined nationally sold-out tours and performed alongside Dave Matthews, Gary Clark Jr, Vince Gill, Keb Mo, and Maxwell, as well as jazz legends such as Herbie Hancock, Robert Glasper, and Patti Austin.
But Ledisi is more than just an extraordinary vocalist. She is also an actress, author, and a passionate advocate for the rights of artists and writers. Her acting career includes roles in Leatherheads and Spinning Gold, as well as her acclaimed portrayals of Mahalia Jackson in Remember Me and Selma. In 2023, she was inducted into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and is currently a member of the Recording Academy’s board. Her significance in the music industry was further confirmed in 2024 when she was awarded an honorary doctorate from Berklee School of Music.
