Hot Club de Norvège has been touring continuously since 1979 and carries with it a remarkable musical history. From their early days as street musicians to the rediscovery of Django Reinhardt’s music in Norway in the 1970s, they became pioneers during the Django renaissance in Europe’s Romani camps in the 1980s – and achieved international breakthrough success in the 1990s.
At the Cosmopolite’s Django Festival in Oslo in 2024, Majken and Hot Club de Norvège shared the stage for the very first time. It was the beginning of a close collaboration that has since resulted in more than 40 concerts across Norway.
Now they return to the stage together – and this will be far more than just a jazz concert. It is a journey through the many expressions of swing jazz: Majken’s rhythmic sensibility and vocal playfulness, the dazzling guitars of Gildas Le Pape and Ola Erlien, Finn Hauge’s lyrical harmonica lines, and Svein Aarbostad’s steady, pulsing bass.
On stage:
Ola Erlien – guitar
Gildas Le Pape – guitar
Majken Christiansen – vocals
Svein Aarbostad – double bass
Finn Hauge – violin, harmonica
One of the world’s greatest guitarists and the creator of gypsy jazz – or jazz manouche – Jean “Django” Reinhardt (January 23, 1910 – May 16, 1953) takes center stage as we honor his music and legacy by inviting artists who perform in his spirit. Django revolutionized jazz guitar and has inspired generations of musicians, from jazz guitarists to rock and country icons such as Eric Clapton, Jerry Garcia, Tony Iommi, and Willie Nelson.
