Decades after his groundbreaking work with James Brown and George Clinton – which made him one of the true architects of funk – Fred Wesley returns to his jazz roots with his new project, Generations. But Generations is far from a traditional jazz trio. Here, jazz, soul, funk and even rap meet in an organic groove. The music pulses with energy, rhythm and swing – as Wesley’s warm trombone, Corradi’s Hammond organ and Match’s rhythmic imagination merge into a tight, playful whole.
The three musicians first came together for a tribute to organ legend Jimmy Smith, but the chemistry was immediate and led to a lasting collaboration. Since then, Generations has refined its sound into an explosive mix of funky jazz and deeply rooted soul – equal parts tradition and innovation, with as much feeling as virtuosity.
Fred Wesley is a funk icon, known for his work with James Brown, George Clinton and the Count Basie Orchestra, as well as for his unique ability to weave groove and improvisation together. Tony Match, French drummer and producer, has collaborated with a wide range of international jazz and soul artists, while Leonardo Corradi, one of Italy’s leading organists, brings power, elegance and modern energy to the trio’s sound.
