The award-winning guitar duo Siqueira Lima, consisting of Fernando de Lima from Brazil and Cecilia Siqueira from Uruguay, has established itself as one of the most influential ensembles on the international guitar scene. With exquisite timing, refined technique, and outstanding musicality, they move between classical music and Latin American expressions. The concert presents a vibrant program that explores the boundary between popular and classical music. They perform pieces from their latest album, Siqueira Lima Sessions, arrangements of legendary composers such as Hermeto Pascoal, Dominguinhos, João Bosco, Ary Barroso, Hugo Fattoruso, and Astor Piazzolla, as well as selected music from different periods of their career.
“Finely detailed as a Fabergé egg” – New York Times
One of their trademarks is bold arrangements ranging from Pixinguinha’s melodies and Dominguinhos’ rhythmic expressions to Bach’s baroque sounds, Debussy’s impressionistic color play, and Villa-Lobos’ Brazilian art music. A highlight of their repertoire is their transcription of Bachianas Brasileiras No. 4 in its entirety. With their virtuosic performance of Tico-tico no Fubá for four hands, they have taken the classical guitar to new heights, performing in over 40 countries on prestigious stages such as Lincoln Center, New World Center, and Concertgebouw.
“The duo’s evocative version of Baden Powell’s Berimbau was truly outstanding” – OJ, The Swedish Jazz Magazine
In addition to their groundbreaking arrangements, they have collaborated with prominent Brazilian composers such as Sergio Assad and Marco Pereira. The album Violonístico (2022) is entirely dedicated to newly composed works for guitar duo. Two concertos for guitar and orchestra have been dedicated to them: Lendas Amazônicas (performed in Sweden in 2022) and Portais Brasileiros No. 4 (world premiere in 2023). Both were received with great enthusiasm and marked new highlights in their career.
