Encapsulating the vitality and experimentalism synonymous with Sao Paulo’s musical history, Caixa Cubo playfully straddle the elegant and the surreal, with masterful songwriting and the consummate musicianship of longtime friends and bandmates Henrique Gomide (piano, rhodes, synthesizer) Noa Stroeter (bass) João Fideles (drums), three of Brazil’s finest musicians.
They performed a showcase at Jazzahead! 2022 and have played at venues such as Jazz à Vienne (France), Riverboat Jazz Festival (Denmark), Breda Jazz Festival (Holland), Auditório Ibirapuera (Brazil) and Jazzkeller Frankfurt (Germany), sharing the stage with musicians such as Yamandu Costa, Tony Lakatos, John Rucco, Nailor Proveta and Paulo Belinatti.
The trio’s seventh album Angela (Heavenly Recordings) was chosen by BBC 6, Gilles Peterson and Bandcamp as one of the albums of the year for 2020.
”After more than ten years of playing together as a trio, the three can apparently read each other’s musical minds…. An interaction that is rarely offered so perfectly” – Wolfgang Sandner, biographer of Miles Davis and Keith Jarret.
Their latest release Modo Avião (Far Out Recordings) follows footsteps of heroes like Azymuth, Antonio Adolfo, Cesar Mariano and Marcos Resende, with the tried and tested trifecta of synthesizers, bass and drums, carving out their own idiosyncratic ideal of golden-era Brazilian jazz-funk and samba-jazz.
On stage:
Henrique Gomide – piano, Rhodes and synth
João Fideles – drums
Noa Stroeter – bass and electric bass
